Who is WalkCT

While WalkCT is made possible through the help of numerous Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) volunteers, members, and staff, there are a few key staff members that lead the charge. Our partners also play a large role in the WalkCT program. WalkCT was able to launch thanks to a grant from the Connecticut Department of Public Health. We also appreciate the assistance of our many other partners who provide support, contribute valuable information, and help to get the word out about this exciting initiative.

Jennifer Benner - Communications Manager

Jen originally hails from the shores of Lake Erie in northeast Ohio. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture from The Ohio State University. After a few twists and turns, Jen settled in Connecticut in 2001 to work as an editor at Fine Gardening magazine in Newtown. Looking for a chance to bring her communication skills and passion for conservation and hiking together, Jen joined the staff at CFPA in 2008. As the WalkCT Communications Manager, she enjoys helping to maintain and grow the WalkCT website and getting the word out about this exciting program. When not in the office, you’ll likely find Jen getting her hands dirty in her garden or hiking the trails near her home in the Litchfield Hills with her husband, son, and favorite pooch Porter.

Lori Paradis Brant – Education Director

Lori joined the staff at CFPA in 2004. With 15 years of environmental education experience, she loves helping students and educators to learn about the local environment as the state co-coordinator of Project Learning Tree—an interdisciplinary environmental education curriculum for educators and leaders. Lori also plays an instrumental role in the WalkCT program, coordinating the WalkCT Family Rambles and training WalkCT Family Guides. Her past work with various non-profits and government agencies led her from farm to forest to sea. Lori is the past president of the Connecticut Outdoor & Environmental Education Association (COEEA), chairs the Education & Outreach Committee for the Connecticut Forestlands Council, and serves on the Connecticut Urban Forestry Council. In her spare time, she enjoys letterboxing, learning about history, and scrapbooking. The Brant’s three cats and one dog let Lori, her husband, and son share their home with them.

Leslie Lewis – WalkCT Director

Leslie became a member of the CFPA staff in 2007 to promote walking and other enrichment opportunities on Connecticut trails, pathways, and sidewalks through the WalkCT program. Prior to coming to CFPA, Leslie was employed by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (now DEEP) for 29 years, helping with the implementation of the Bottle Bill, preparation of municipal recycling and waste guidelines, and development of the DEP’s 2000 Environment plan. From 1997 through April 2007, she served as DEP’s Trails and Greenways Coordinator, responsible for grants, state-wide trail planning, and technical assistance. Appointed by Governor Rell to the Connecticut Greenways Council, Leslie also serves on the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Bicycle/Pedestrian Committee, the Connecticut Safe Routes to School Committee, and the Connecticut Equine Advisory Council .
