Location Details

The Aspetuck Valley Trail is for foot travel only and is open year round for all to enjoy. The trail is marked with blue blazes. Hikers are required to stay on the marked trail. Jogging, cross‐country skiing, and snowshoeing are also permitted. The trail is primarily wooded as it passes through The Centennial Watershed State Forest and connects to Collis P. Huntington State Park in Redding.

Access restrictions:
  • Fishing, swimming, wading, camping, campfires, rock climbing, smoking, and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
  • Canoes, kayaks, or any other boat or flotation devices are not permitted on any stream, river, or watercourse within the State Forest.
  • Pets are not allowed on the trail to protect wildlife and vegetation, and to comply with the Department of Public Health regulations.
  • Equestrian use is also prohibited.
  • Vehicles of any kind, motorized or not, including all types of cycles, are prohibited on the Aspetuck Valley Trail.
blue-blazed-trail Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail:

The Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System, was established in 1929 by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA), a private, non-profit conservation organization. Since that time, the system has grown to include roughly 825 miles of footpaths across Connecticut. The Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails are maintained by dedicated CFPA volunteers for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public. To learn more about their use, visit the Trail Use Policy page. How to get there

Driving Directions:

From I-84, take exit #11/Derby (CT-34)/New Haven, go 0.71 miles and turn left onto Mile Hill Road. Go 1.62 miles and turn right onto South Main Street (CT-25). Go 0.71 miles and turn left onto Sugar Street (CT-302). Go 2.54 miles; bear left onto Key Rock Road. Go 0.91 miles and continue onto Poverty Hollow Road.
