Location Details

This section of the Blue-Blazed Nipmuck Trail runs past Mount 50 Foot with good views to the east, south, and west. A long section hugs the east bank of the Fenton River (subject to flooding in the spring) with many excellent trout fishing locations. Many rural road crossings are encountered along the way. The total section is just short of 8 miles. The entire length of the Nipmuck Trail extends from Mansfield north to the Nipmuck State Forest in Union on the Massachusetts border. blue-blazed-trail Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail:

The Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System, was established in 1929 by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA), a private, non-profit conservation organization. Since that time, the system has grown to include roughly 825 miles of footpaths across Connecticut. The Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails are maintained by dedicated CFPA volunteers for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public. To learn more about their use, visit the Trail Use Policy page. How to get there

Driving Directions:

Take Route 195/Storrs Road north from Willimantic or south from Storrs to 954 Storrs Road (Mansfield), the Mansfield Historical Society building (formerly Town Hall). Location is at the top of Spring Hill. Park at the Mansfield Historical Society. Follow the blue blazes east from the parking lot for 0.6 miles then head north at the North/South Junction of the Nipmuck Trail.
